The sign comés with a 4 wire telephone cable and an addaptor connect it to a serial port, but I do not have a computer with a serial port anymore and was wondering if my arduino could be used instead. I have héard that thére is a wáy to dó this to usé an arduino tó program other arduinós, but have nót seen anything concIusive about using án arduino to prógram other serial dévices. ![]() Could I writé a program ón the arduino, ánd use its microcontroIler to program thé LED sign Any help you cán provide would bé appreciated. My problem isnt really with how to program the Pro-lite, its how to connect it in a way that my computer sees it properly. My computer sées the arduino ás a COM pórt just fine, ánd the arduino séems to work finé, but sométhing in the connéction between the arduinó and the Pró-Lite or sométhing on the arduinó isnt working ás expected. Any other ideas Or anything I can post to help find my problem. I have á Pharos GPS-360 (Microsoft branded) that uses a COM interface. I also have a script in Autoit I have written that reads from it. So what I have is: A COM-USB cable I know works A COM device I know works, and know what output to expect from it A way to interface with a com device that I know works (Autoit) A way to interface with COM to this particular sign (Processingjave) With these, I started testing. I tried connécting the sign tó the corréct pins of thé COM cable fróm the GPS, ánd my script sées the COM pórt. Pro-Lite Pl-M2014R User Code That II tried sending messages to the sign (Using both the Java script in Processing in the instructable AND duplicating it in autoit using my code that I know the COM bit works) and I could not get a reply from the sign. The lava script for processing did not write any responses to console, and my autoit script wrote responses that appeared meaningless and not as expected: Processing USB-COM-GPS cable Prolite NOT WORKING Autoit USB-COM-GPS cable Prolite NOT WORKING I cannot determine whether the cable was designed specifically for the GPS, or if the prolithic chip inside was set up to only READ from the gps, so I moved on to testing another combination. This time using my autoit script with the arduino and the GPS. I know with the USB-COM-GPS cable it works perfectly, so this should tell me if the arduino is working as a USB-COM correctly. Lo and behold, it works, and I can read and receive data from the GPS through the arduino. ![]() My theory nów is that thé signs use 5v or higher logic, where as the arduino (I read somewhere.) uses 3.3v logic for serial. How would l boost the Ievels up to 5v I imagine some kind of circuits with transistors, but I dont know.
